Get Broadcom BCM4311 Working in Ubuntu 12.04

I have had the best luck following Jorge Castro’s steps on getting BCM4311 to work in Ubuntu. The steps are simple.
- Open Additional Drivers application
- Remove ‘Broadcom STA Driver’
- Open Ubuntu Software Center
- Search ‘bcm’
- Install ‘Installer Package for firmware for the b43 driver’ (firmware-b43-installer)
- Reboot your computer
Make sure if there’s a physical switch for Wifi that it’s enabled and after rebooting your machine your wireless should work fine.
I tested this on a Dell Latitude D630. lspci showed the following results for wireless.
0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 01)

Removing the STA driver and installing the BCM 4311 Firmware fixed my problem. Thanks
It worked for me to Dell-Inspirion
Worked perfectly on Dell XT. I’m not a Linux guy yet, but I’m working on it. After 3-4 hours trying different things I found this Jorge Castro (by HS) instruction set and in 10 minutes (mainly downloading and installing) it worked perfectly. Thanx a bunch guys!

This is the solution for the Acer Extensa 5220 aswell running the Broadcom BCM4311.
type this to find your wifi card:
lspci -nn | grep 0280

But i cant install anything from the software center without internet!
eh man do the same as i, i usually use wifi, but it didnt wirks so i connect the ethernet cable of the router(i stayed sat on the floor for a long time looking fot this page) and I now have wifi!

Excellent! Worked for Acer Travelmate 7520. I had spent hours trying to fiddle with ndiswrapper and windows drivers to try to get it work and it was this simple! (Had to do a clean install though – I think the steps taken for ndiswrapper (adding drivers to blacklist) etc. messed it up).

How? I click on additional drivers and an error pops up saying “downloading package indexes failed, please check your network status… I am trying to install the driver to get me online… How do I download the drivers that I need without an active connection to the internet?
